HSBC Family Literacy First Fund
The HSBC Family Literacy First Fund is presented to Canadian organizations that are making significant contributions to the field of family financial literacy. This award honours programs that empower families to develop their financial literacy skills together and could serve as a model for other organizations to adapt. There are (4) awards of $2,500 each. The awards as granted can be invested into the program and/or applied to program improvement.
ABC Life Literacy Canada is responsible for the management of this project, including the distribution of funding.
Who Can Apply
- Organizations applying for funding must be based in Canada and fall
into one of the following categories: not-for-profit organization,
registered charities, school library or public library - Organizations and their applying program must have been in existence for at least 12 months
- The applying program must primarily serve children and their parents/caregivers to help improve their financial literacy skills
Criteria for Selection
- Applicants provide details of their existing family financial literacy programming and how it supports families in their community
- Applicants clearly identify how the award would be invested into their programming and resource materials, and the impacts it would make
- Submissions will be reviewed based on criteria such as how inclusive and innovative the program is and how many people the program has reached
- Successful applicants agree to provide ABC Life Literacy Canada with reporting to identify how the award has made a difference to their program and to the families involved
Examples of Eligible Fund Allocations
Winning applicants must use the award funds to invest in their family financial literacy initiatives. Examples of appropriate use of the award funds include, but are not limited to:
- Purchase of materials and supplies for participants of family financial literacy learning activities
- Purchase of hardware/software for the organization that participants can use to access family financial literacy programming
- Investment in expanding existing family financial literacy programming to reach and serve more families
- Investment in the development of support resources for family financial literacy programs
- Pilot new events or program delivery models for existing family financial literacy programs
2023 Award Submission Timeline
April 3, 2023 – Award submission period opens
July 21, 2023 – Deadline for submissions extended
August 21, 2023 – Winners notified
January 31, 2024 – Final reports due to ABC
